Due to the shape of the lower jaw and the shortness of its muzzle, breathing issues can cause a Bulldog to snore. Other problems can include a cherry eye, which is a common eye condition in various dog breeds where the gland of the third eyelid becomes visible. This may also lead to certain allergies.Because Bulldogs have a of large head in proportion to their body size, puppies are frequently delivered by Caesarean section. They could and would get stuck in the birth canal during natural birth. However, it is not uncommon for a bulldog to give birth naturally and very successfully!Bulldogs require daily cleaning of their face becasue of the many folds that they have. This is important in order to avoid unwanted infections that can be caused by moisture accumulation.

Daily teeth brushing with a regular human soft toothbrush using a vet approved toothpaste is also a bonus. Bulldogs are very sensitive to heat and cold and they should be looked after during very warm periods. Owners should make sure a Bulldog is kept out of standing heat, given plenty of water and a place with shade. One should regularly exercise a Bulldog, since they are prone to gaining weight. Overfeeding and lack of exercise can have a negative effect on the heart and lungs of this breed. Although this breed can be considered high-maintenance, in the end it is worth it.
