What kennel size is needed to ship an English Bulldog Puppy?

Big Dog | October 23rd, 2009

Family pets are not only devoted and loyal companions for the homes, but they are considered as family! Responsible owners who treat their dogs as members of their family do not leave them in kennel care or at home with a sitter. Vacations and trips out of town are never complete without them. However, travelling by plane would need preparation for the dog’s safety as well as for meeting airline regulations.

Depending of the size of the English Bulldog Puppy, the correct kennel or cage must be secured. Dimensions measured are length of the dog from nose to the root of the tail, height from ground to the elbow, width of shoulders, and the standing height of the ground to the head. These factors are calculated to get the proper size. Puppies must have enough room to stand on it. Food and water can also be equipped on it and it also has a liquid absorbent bottom.

Exercising your Bulldog….

D Dog Fan | March 12th, 2008

When seeing or thinking of a Bulldog, do you conjure up images of a greyhound? Hmmmmm…I didn’t think so. well, albeit their short legs, the Bulldog is not a fan of the gym, so to speak. They are a generally lazy breed that..well…loves to laze about. So it is up to you to MAKE them go to the proverbial gym!! Since they are genetically prone to putting on weight, it is not a good idea to only feed them and to cuddle them, but to also play an active role in looking out for their health by exercising them.

A lack of exercise can have a detrimental effect on the lungs and heart of this breed. Since the concentration span of a Bulldog is not that long, it is best advised to make the exercise sessions short but fullfulling as well. Make this a daily routine. It can be short running or longer walks around the block. It will do you both good; and it can be even a basis for mutual bonding, since he will see that you are keen to play and to take up an active role in spending quality time together. Once your beloved Bulldog, has expelled energy, he can become more focused on training sessions (which should also be short, mind you) as well as take up his favorite spot in the house…all tired out!

The Health of a Bulldog

D Dog Fan | January 24th, 2008

The bulldog is known to have a few problems with health issues. Due to the shape of the lower jaw and the shortness of its muzzle, breathing issues can cause a Bulldog to snore. Other problems can include a cherry eye, which is a common eye condition in various dog breeds where the gland of the third eyelid becomes visible. This may also lead to certain allergies.Because Bulldogs have a of large head in proportion to their body size, puppies are frequently delivered by Caesarean section. They could and would get stuck in the birth canal during natural birth. However, it is not uncommon for a bulldog to give birth naturally and very successfully!Bulldogs require daily cleaning of their face becasue of the many folds that they have. This is important in order to avoid unwanted infections that can be caused by moisture accumulation.

Daily teeth brushing with a regular human soft toothbrush using a vet approved toothpaste is also a bonus. Bulldogs are very sensitive to heat and cold and they should be looked after during very warm periods. Owners should make sure a Bulldog is kept out of standing heat, given plenty of water and a place with shade. One should regularly exercise a Bulldog, since they are prone to gaining weight. Overfeeding and lack of exercise can have a negative effect on the heart and lungs of this breed. Although this breed can be considered high-maintenance, in the end it is worth it. Having a Bulldog is for those people who have the time, the energy and the love to give to this awesome breed. Take care of your Bulldog!
